PRTG Review
PRTG is a free and easy-to-use network monitoring tool by Paessler AG for Android devices. It monitors all data transmitted through your mobile phone connection (LTE, Wi-Fi, 3G, etc.) and shows you how much data has been sent or received in the past 30 days.
With PRTG, you get an overview of your network and can easily troubleshoot problems. It is designed to detect problems and send alerts via email, SMS, or automatic messages in productivity applications like Slack and Microsoft Teams. It also supports Syslog sensors and can log data from your router, firewall, or other devices.
The software by Nuremberg-based company Paessler AG works completely agentless and therefore does not require installing additional hardware or software on the devices you want to monitor. The price of the solution is based on how many "sensors" you use, which are individual measuring points that represent a certain aspect of a device, such as the traffic of a specific URL, the toner level in a printer, or a CPU load. With the freeware edition, you get 100 sensors, which is enough for most small home networks and office networks.
PRTG makes it easy to recognize bottlenecks, for example in the case of overloaded WiFi networks or massive online backups. This can reduce performance to a point that it is no longer usable and, in the worst-case scenario, lead to a crash. PRTG also clearly displays the current network speed so that you can quickly identify when a bandwidth increase is necessary.
